Job Description

Are you interested in advancing Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in some of the most challenging countries and contexts of the world? Would you be thrilled to promote the importance of vocational education and training in challenging environments where TVET barely exists? Do new innovations, collaboration with private sector, advancing digital earning opportunities and exploring all this with multicultural team get you excited?  If you answer yes, you might be the professional we are looking for. Finn Church Aid is looking for a Senior Thematic Advisor - Technical and Vocational Education and Training for a permanent position.  

Main tasks:

  • Coordinate the quality and content of TVET work and Linking Learning to Earning (LL2E) and Career Guidance Counselling (CGC) concept within Right to Quality Education (R2QE) theme within the FCA programmatic framework, in cooperation with the Senior Thematic Advisors for Right to Quality Education E and Right to Livelihoods (R2L) under the agreed leadership structure
  • Lead and develop the Linking Learning to Earning concept, TVET and CGC work within FCA, in close cooperation with R2L senior thematic advisor, under the agreed leadership structure
  • Participate in the coordination of the thematic work with the other thematic advisors to ensure quality planning of a holistic FCA programme
  • Support Country/Regional Offices in TVET and LL2E and CGC work within the Country Programmes
  • Provide thematic expertise on LL2E, TVET and CGC in the course of project cycle management and take part in programme/project baselines studies, planning, monitoring and/or evaluations and assure organizational learning
  • Participate in capacity development of FCA’s staff in R2QE
  • Represent FCA in relevant thematic and sectoral networks related to R2QE and establish/strengthen strategic partnerships with other agencies, as agreed
  • Participate in thematic development within relevant sectoral networks
  • Contribute to the development of FCA programmatic guidelines and tools in collaboration with relevant staff members

Competence, experience, skills, knowledge needed

  • Experience as vocational teacher
  • Practical experience of entrepreneurship and how to link that to vocational education
  • Experience and understanding on how private sector and vocational education are best linked
  • Good understanding of career guidance and counselling
  • Good advocacy skills
  • Proven experience of successful proposal planning, writing and reporting skills
  • Project management skills (planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation)
  • Experience in working in multicultural settings and abroad
  • Masters – level degree in vocational education or equivalent
  • Preferably qualification in career guidance
  • Good written and oral skills in English
  • Good understanding of the Finnish vocational training system and understanding of sector development
  • Understanding of humanitarian aid considered as an advantage

There will be a six-month probation period. The compensation is based on FCA Compensation System and depends on prior work experience.
