This is a special fixed-term appointment for a period of three (3) years following Section 3.1 (c.) of Administrative Order No. 2.01 (“Recruitment and Appointment’). This appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment. It may be extended on exceptional basis for a further fixed period at the option of ADB. This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.
This vacancy is a regional staff position with local remuneration package. It is open to nationals and permanent residents residing in the duty station, Solomon Islands and ADB member countries in the Pacific region such as Australia Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji Islands, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

The position is assigned to the Education Sector Group (SDSC-EDU) within the Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department (SDCC) and will be strategically placed in Social Sectors and Public Sector Management Division (PASP) within the Pacific Department (PARD).
The SDCC provides leadership, innovation, and knowledge sharing for ADB’s sector and thematic work. The Education Sector Group is responsible for providing policy advice, operational support, and knowledge expertise in mainstreaming priorities in education sector in ADB operations. PARD is responsible for maintaining client relations and delivering ADB assistance to countries in the Pacific region. PASP manages loan, grant, technical assistance and knowledge products relating to the social sectors, education, health, social protection, public sector management, and gender (inclusive of cross divisional support). PASP also manages the PARD-wide economic work and work on fragility as this relates to ADB's efforts to support Fragile and Conflict Afflicted Situations (FCAS).
The Senior Education Officer will support mission teams in administering and processing education loans, technical assistance (TA) projects, and non-lending products and services for projects and TA in Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Nauru. The position will support the identification and application of innovative education approaches most appropriate in early childhood, K-12 education, technical and vocational education and training, and higher education. The position will oversee the processing and implementation of education projects by ensuring compliance with ADB standards and requirements.
The incumbent will be strategically placed in PASP within PARD and will be outposted in Pacific Country Office in Solomon Islands (PLCO) for an initial period of 3 years. The incumbent will receive technical guidance and support from designated International Staff from PLCO, Director, PASP, and the Education Sector Group of the SDCC (SDSC-EDU). Chief, SDSC-EDU and Director, PASP will provide supervisory inputs to the incumbent’s annual workplan and performance review, to be endorsed by Director PASP. Day to day administrative matters will be managed by designated International Staff in PLCO. The incumbent may supervise an Administrative Staff.
The selected candidate, if new to ADB, is appointed for an initial term of 3 years.
