Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Education (ADG/ED) and the direct supervision of the Head of the UNESCO Windhoek Office, the incumbent will contribute to the design, coordination and implementation of activities carried out under Major Programme I – Education in Namibia, in view of supporting the Member State in its effort to implement its National Development Plans (NDPs) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union Agenda 2063.
In particular, the incumbent is responsible for providing professional, and technical support, research and analysis, with an emphasis on the national context to develop, implement and evaluate programme initiatives to promote learning and sustainable development, and support the Member State to advance the transformation of education, research and foresight to address contemporary environmental and societal challenges and build back better after the pandemic towards the implementation of the SDG4-Education 2030 Framework for Action. The incumbent shall work as part of the Interdisciplinary team in the UNESCO Windhoek Office, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, and with technical guidance from Education Programme Divisions at UNESCO Headquarters and the Education Programme Specialists at the Multi-sectoral Regional Office for Southern Africa in Harare.
In this context, the incumbent will:
- Developing the advocacy on the role of education and training as a vector for national development;
- Identifying entry points for education and training in these exercises responding to national priorities and needs;
- Developing and assessing related actions, programmes and activities;
- Maintaining strong working relations with the Resident Coordinator Office and other UN Agencies, groups and entities.

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.
The approximate annual starting salary for this post is USD 41,357.
