Project Description

The USAID funded Youth Advance activities is being implemented for five years in Montserrado, Bassa and Lofa counties. The project aims to increase the economic self-reliance and resilience of 21,000 youths between the ages 15-29 years.  EDC in collaboration with Plan International and Resonance Global will partner with Youth Serving Local Organizations/YSLOs in the three targeted counties to roll out a set of adapted modular curriculum-EDC Work Ready Now/WRN-Be Your Own Boss/BYOB to cohorts of youth under Pathway 2 (i.e., youth who have completed grade 6 and above but never completed high school or dropped-out), and basic education for youth under Pathway 1 (i.e, youth who have not completed grade 6).

Position Description

The Master Trainer will facilitate training and capacity building activities for MOYS staff at the national and county level, and YSLOs with a focus on Training of Trainers to roll out basic education curriculum for Pathway 1 youth at county level.   This position is part of a county team that supports the implementation of USAID Youth Advance Activity in targeted counties.  The Master Trainer will work closely with the Training Manager who serve as the learning leader and will implement an integrated program of professional development that will include TOT workshops, refreshers, and on the job experiential learning.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under the guidance of the Training Manager and the EDC Short Term Technical Assistants (STTAs), schedule, implement and evaluate USAID Youth Advance integrated professional development and capacity building program for youth trainers, MOYS and YSLOs;
  • Implement capacity needs assessments and use results to inform training outcome;
  • Support the identification of training materials and proper usage;
  • Facilitate refresher workshops as deemed necessary with youth trainers and YSLOs;  
  • Provide feedback to Training Manager on the relevance and usefulness of training modules and resource materials;
  • Support and work collaboratively with the training team to ensure quality implementation of USAID Youth Advance Activity;
  • Observe and enhance linkages between Basic Ed and WORK READY NOW, BE YOUR OWN BOSS, FOUNDATIONS OF RESILIENCE and FOUNDATION OF HEALTH;
  • After every training activity, submit training report to Training Manager for review, onward action and archive; and
  • Conduct these and other tasks as required in support of project goals.

Qualifications

The candidate for the position of Master Trainer shall have at a minimum the following qualifications:

Education:

University degree or certificate from an accredited teacher training institute preferred.

Skills and Experience:

  • 3-4 years of experience as a teacher, principal, or DEO required;
  • Supervisory experience required;
  • Previous experience as a master trainer with MOE, MOYS or NGO preferred;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience using participatory teaching methodologies;
  • Excellent facilitation skills with demonstrated experience facilitating in a range of contexts and topics;
  • Strong content knowledge in one or more subject areas (literacy/reading/English language arts, numeracy/mathematics, business, life skills); Adult education, educational leadership and policy, especially vocational education (TVET); program quality standards;
  • Experience and expertise in designing and implementing wide-range of methods and approaches to professional development and capacity building;
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills;
  • Ability to build effective relationships with all participants, peers, and stakeholders;
  • Must be able to work within a cross cultural setting, negotiate diplomatically, and function well under pressure;
  • Knowledge of/experience with USAID-funded projects preferred;
  • Ability to work as part of a training team and liaise closely with project staff in the counties;
  • Proactive and creative, and able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Culturally astute, respectful and tolerant;
  • Willingness to travel frequently through the assigned county; and
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and other ICT tools.

Language:

Fluency in English is required.
