Job description
The project "Support to the Transformation of the TVET System in Ghana" is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development with funding support from the EU. In 2019, the Government of Ghana initiated a transformation of the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector better known as “Harmonization of TVET”. GIZ supports these reform processes. The project’s objective is to support the Government of Ghana in establishing an efficient TVET system by strengthening the management capacities of relevant state actors, by training TVET personnel to apply competency-based trainings (CBT), by involving the private sector to ensure TVET curricula are demand-driven, and lastly by integrating green and digital elements into TVET to address environment and sustainability aspects in the labor market.
Your tasks
- Work directly with Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) and advise other regional key actors on the implementation of competence-based and labor market-oriented technical and vocational education and training, as well as maintain contacts with trade associations and the industry
- Support the establishment of KTI as a Centre of Excellence, especially for green skills by providing guidance, mentoring, and coaching for the management and staff, and by advising KTI on organizational development
- Support in the identification of green opportunities and advise on strategies to transition into green and sustainable methods and processes
- Support in the expansion and inclusion of green competencies and capacity building in educational leadership, management, and training
- Analyze of teaching quality and pedagogical methodology, identifying technical training courses for the teaching staff or in CBT methods
- Coordinate with KfW regarding infrastructure development interventions at KTI and support cooperation between German technical and financial cooperation
- Act as the regional coordinator for project activities in central Ghana; mainly Ashanti Region and Eastern Region
- Support the cooperation between training providers and the industry and organize outreach activities to impact the social and business development of the communities in central Ghana
- Cooperation and coordination with the GIZ project team
Your profile
- Advanced university degree or professional qualification related to education; TVET, or similar fields
- Proven knowledge and experience in the TVET- or education sector, deep understanding of green and greening and sustainability as well as familiarity with e-learning systems and digital management platforms
- Experience in developing, improving, and implementing successful internal coordination systems and supporting organizational development
- Experience in stakeholder and community engagement
- Experience abroad in the field of development/international cooperation, in West Africa and experience working in intercultural, cross-cultural, and interreligious contexts would be an asset
- Sensitivity towards, or experience with approaches to gender equality, equity, and inclusion
- Strong teamwork and networking skills, coordination, communication, presentation and facilitation skills and a high degree of self-organization and adaptability
- Solid conflict sensitivity, conflict transformation and consensus building skills; dialogue facilitation
- Business-fluent In German and English
Location information
Kumasi is the second largest city in Ghana and the capital of the Ashanti Region. It is located in a rain forest region near Lake Bosomtwe, and is the commercial, industrial, and cultural capital of the historical Ashanti Empire. Medical facilities, shopping centres, local markets, local and international restaurants are all available. Kumasi has an airport. The capital of Ghana, Accra, can be reached in 40 minutes by air and in about four hours by road. The airport will soon be expanded to an international airport with international destinations.

- To enable you to get ready for your assignment as a development worker and your outward journey, you will be given outward journey leave following your preparation time in Germany.
- We will cover a large portion of the childcare costs for dependent children under 14 who are accompanying you if your partner is not doing so and is not a development worker or integrated expert themselves. Most nursery and school fees are paid.
- We will reimburse you for your rental costs based on the rent index for your country as well as paying you an equipment and furnishing allowance on top.
- You and the members of your family accompanying you will be covered by our health and liability insurance, while your family members will also benefit from accident insurance. In countries in crisis, we operate a comprehensive risk management system for your protection, which minimises personal dangers and risks.
