Development Worker (m/f/d) to support digitalization in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Ethiopia

Job description

The Ethiopian government has set itself the goal of achieving middle-income country status by 2025. The massive expansion of the education sector should provide the national economy with employable graduates and at the same time give the rapidly growing young population a perspective. The goal of the “Sustainable Training and Education Program” (STEP) project is therefore to increase the employability of TVET graduates, jobseekers and self-employed, especially of females.

Your tasks

  • Developing digital solutions for the Campus management system, covering various core administrative processes of the college as well as learning management platform
  • Initiate, support, and coordinate the dialogue among several relevant actors in the region, especially private companies and education institutions including the host TVET college for the digitalization of core processes and blended learning programmes in collaboration with local and international experts
  • Administrate day to day digital content upload, troubleshooting, and moderation of learning management system
  • Strengthen partners’ (college and companies) capacity to plan, develop and implement digital solutions to support cooperative trainings within various sectors
  • Build capacity of partners (college and companies) on instructional design in order to develop digital learning solutions
  • Analyze data in order to determine gaps in cooperative training and identify additional needs to choose appropriate digital formats for development and implementation of training programmes in digital literacy, and support and provide hands-on experiences to transfer technology
  • Support the design and organization of events such as workshops, ceremonies, trainings, conferences
  • Facilitate learnings and contribute to knowledge management of the STEP programme and host organizations
  • Work in close coordination with a team of local and international experts

Your profile

  • University degree or professional qualification in e.g. computer sciences, systems architecture, software engineering and/or related to developing software
  • Proven knowledge, as well as experience and understanding of the digital concepts and tools for digitalization of manual processes and blended learning approaches
  • Initial experience in the field of development/international cooperation in Africa is of advantage
  • Hands on experience with digital content development and blended learning approaches are an asset
  • Sensitivity towards, or experience with, approaches to gender equality and inclusion
  • Structured work style with a high degree of self-organization, flexibility and creativity
  • Strong communication, presentation and facilitation skills are an asset
  • Business fluent in English, knowledge of German is an advantage; willingness to learn the local language, Amharic/Sidama

  • As a development worker, you can use the project vehicle for trips to school or to visit a doctor or can receive a monthly lump-sum mobility allowance instead. The project vehicle can also be used for personal trips with your manager’s approval.

  • As well as your basic living allowance, as a development worker you will also receive extensive additional benefits during your assignment (including a foreign service premium, family allowances, private group health insurance).
  • To enable you to get ready for your assignment as a development worker and your outward journey, you will be given outward journey leave following your preparation time in Germany.
  • We will cover a large portion of the childcare costs for dependent children under 14 who are accompanying you if your partner is not doing so and is not a development worker or integrated expert themselves. Most nursery and school fees are paid.
  • We will reimburse you for your rental costs based on the rent index for your country as well as paying you an equipment and furnishing allowance on top.
  • You and the members of your family accompanying you will be covered by our health and liability insurance, while your family members will also benefit from accident insurance. In countries in crisis, we operate a comprehensive risk management system for your protection, which minimises personal dangers and risks.
