Job description

The Ethiopian government has set itself the goal of achieving middle-income country status by 2025. The massive expansion of the education sector should provide the national economy with employable graduates and at the same time give the rapidly growing young population a perspective. The goal of the “Sustainable Training and Education Program” (STEP) project is therefore to increase the employability of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates, jobseekers and self-employed, especially of females. The project advises the Ministry of Education, its subordinate authorities and private sector at federal and regional level aiming at improving mechanisms to steer and implement a demand-driven TVET system, increasing capacities of TVET personnel to lead and implement demand-driven TVET, expanding employment-oriented training offers for different target groups and encouraging business sector to play are more active role in TVET and employment promotion. It is a large-scale, complex project in a dynamic and changing environment.

Your tasks

  • Work in close coordination with Hawassa Polytechnic College and the Regional Job Skills and Enterprise Development Bureau
  • Support local institutions to increase the employability of young graduates in the Electrotechnology sub-sector through market oriented cooperative training and employment linkages
  • Strengthen partners (college and companies) capacity to plan, develop and implement market oriented cooperative trainings within electrotechnology sub-sector
  • Initiate, support and coordinate the dialogue among several relevant stakeholders in the region, especially private companies and education institutions in the electrotechnology sector
  • Provide hands-on practical training, orientation and solution to address the technical gaps within training providers and the companies to deliver quality and relevant cooperative training in the electrotechnology sub-sector
  • Identify trainer’s skill gap, design and provide intervention measures in electrical/electronic or electrotechnology sub-sector
  • Support and provide hands-on experiences transfer of technology
  • Support the design and organisation of events such as workshops, ceremonies, trainings, conferences
  • Facilitate learnings and contribute to knowledge management of the STEP programme and host organisations
  • Work in close coordination with a team of local and international experts

Your profile

  • University degree or professional qualification related to cooperative and higher education in electronics and communication, industrial automation and control, electrical engineering, private sector development, private sector partnership
  • Proven knowledge, as well as experience and understanding of the electrotechnology sectors mainly electronics & communication, industrial automation and control technology management
  • First experience in the field of development/international cooperation in Africa
  • Hands on experience with digital content development and blended learning approaches are an asset
  • Sensitivity towards, or experience with, approaches to gender equality and inclusion
  • Structured work style with a high degree of self-organisation and creativity
  • Strong communication, presentation and facilitation skills
  • Business fluent in English, knowledge of German is an advantage; willingness to learn the local language, Amharic/Sidama
